How did Mother’s Day first begin?

Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. This tradition reaches back to ancient Greek times. Thousands of years ago the Greeks celebrated a feast in honour of Rhea, the mother of Zeus. Later in medieval England, the church created “Mothering Sunday” to celebrate the holy mother.

The Mother’s Day we know today is derived from the American one. It was invented during the women’s movement in the 19th century. In 1914 the American government officially declared the second Sunday in May Mother’s Day. England and many other European countries followed this example. Mother’s Day has been celebrated in Germany since 1923. In Austria, Mother’s Day was created in 1924 after it was initiated by a women’s rights activist called Marianne Hainisch. Finally, inspired by their German neighbours and with much campaigning from female florists, gardeners, and bakers, Mother’s Day won the hearts of the public and Switzerland adopted it in 1930.

How do I write a Mother’s Day card?

With a personalised Mother’s Day card, you can convey your own heartfelt words and thoughts. We have many Mother’s Day design templates to choose from including single photo designs and collages. An important aspect of your happy Mother’s Day card is your personal message. You can have your message printed on the inside of the card or handwrite it before you send it. It is nice to write about your favourite memories or perhaps add a beautiful saying that fits with your thoughts. The most important thing is that you tell the special lady in your life how much they mean to you.

How long does it take for my Mother’s Day Card to arrive?

If you choose one of our ifolor greeting cards you can be sure that your mother receives a unique Mother’s Day card. You should order your card in plenty of time so that you have time to sign it and send it to your mum before Mother’s Day. Usually, it takes four business days to process and deliver your card. If you want to send it to your mum by mail you should take into account, the extra time need for it to arrive with her.
